Alion Science and Technology Corporation is holding a “Fun” Raiser as part of a company-wide campaign to benefit the nonprofit organization Our Military Kids at the Bullpen adjacent to Nationals Stadium today, selling raffle tickets for prizes including weekend travel packages, event tickets, and sports memorabilia.

April 22, 2010: MOAA Presents Highest Awards in Capitol Hill Ceremony
The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) presented its highest annual awards to four U.S. legislators, three organizations that support military people and their families, and two Congressional staff members in a ceremony on April 20, on Capitol Hill. MOAA's Board of Directors gave the awards to Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Ben Nelson (D-NE), and Richard Burr (R-NC), Rep. John Carter (R-TX), TriWest Healthcare Alliance, The Pease Greeters, and Our Military Kids, Inc., and two professional Congressional staffers, Tony McClain and Chris Alsup.

April 13, 2010: Our Military Kids Honors the Month of the Military Child
April marks the Month of the Military Child, and the nonprofit organization Our Military Kids recognized four children with parents currently or recently deployed in the National Guard and Reserves as Military Kids of the Year, as well as one Military Family of the Year. The event, “A Celebration of Our Military Kids’ Star Power,” was held this afternoon in the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill.

March 1, 2010: Help Our Military Kids win $50,000 with the Pepsi Refresh Project:
Our organization applied for a grant from the Pepsi Corporation called “Refresh Everything”. In 2010, Pepsi will give millions of dollars to fund good ideas that make the world a better place. Our Military Kids applied for a $50,000 grant award to provide grants to cover fees for enrichment activities for children of members of the Armed Forces who have died while serving our nation. -
November 2, 2009: Confidant Solutions and Our Military Kids launch joint campaign
Washington, D.C. – Confidant Solutions Inc. and Our Military Kids today announced a joint promotion beginning on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009, and continuing through January 10, 2010. The campaign is aimed at raising funds for the grants that will be awarded during the month of April, 2010, in celebration of the Month of the Military Child.

McLean, Virginia - When an Air Force Officer was asked what he needed in Iraq, he said, "Please don’t send cookies, care packages or socks. Just help take care of our children."
A new nonprofit organization is dedicated to doing just that. Our Military Kids has been formed to provide support and recognition to the families of National Guard and Reserves by providing the financial resources to enable these children to participate in youth sports, fine arts and tutoring programs during the period of their parent’s deployment. -
February 19, 2005: Top Youth Volunteer Donates Award to Help Military Children: Arizona Teen Keeps Her Focus on Military Kids
McLean, Virginia – Alison Goulder, a 14-year old from Scottsdale, Arizona, has chosen to donate money she was awarded as a Prudential Spirit of the Community honoree to help the children of deployed National Guard and Reserve personnel through the Our Military Kids organization. Alison is one of two Arizona teenagers chosen as state honorees. Over 20,000 middle school and high school students applied to this year’s program. -

Jen was intent on having her son continue with his therapeutic horseback riding lessons while her husband was deployed to Iraq.
Margaret, a mother of eight children ages one through eleven years, home schools her children. She applied for a grant for the five older children to join the area YMCA. The grant allowed the children to participate on the swim team and pass the summer months engaged in energetic play.
When I first heard about having the chance to travel to an important band festival I didn’t imagine I could go because of how expensive it was. But because of your generosity, I get to have an experience to last a lifetime. I’ll always be grateful to you all for the work you’ve done to help give me this wonderful opportunity. —Christine
“Enrolling my four boys in martial arts provided a structure that we all needed during my husband Mark’s deployment,” says Nancy. “They have learned the importance of respect, loyalty, non-violent behavior, and the value of working out conflicts in different ways.” Knowing the boys were enjoying tae kwon do relieved Mark’s stress level while he was away in service.

Who can receive a grant?
School-age dependents (3 years through high school) of Reserve and National Guard military personnel deployed overseas may apply.
What documentation is required as proof of a parent’s deployment?
A copy of the military parent’s overseas deployment orders will verify that a child is eligible for the grant program.
Is the grant award dependent on family income?
Family income is not a consideration in determining the eligibility of a child’s grant request.
Are there restrictions on the types of activities eligible for grants?
Our Military Kids, Inc. covers many programs but there are restrictions. See a complete list in our “Activities Covered” section of this website.
Which tutoring services qualify?
Grants assist children in maintaining academic performance at grade level. We require a letter from the child’s teacher indicating the need for tutoring
What documentation is needed to support the amount of the grant?
A copy of a brochure, flyer, website page or letter from the organization providing the activity or service must accompany the application.
Who receives the grant check?
The organization indicated on the grant application will receive the check for the approved grant.
Does the grant have to be repaid?
The grant does not have to be paid back unless the child does not complete the activity.
Can a child receive multiple grants?
We can award 2 grants per child per 365 day deployment.
May more than one child from a family apply for a grant?
All eligible children in a family may apply for a grant.
How does Our Military Kids, Inc. determine which children receive grants?
We award grants to all qualified applicants as long as funds are available.
How are the grants funded?
Our Military Kids, Inc. is supported by contributions from corporations, charitable foundations and individuals.
Does Our Military Kids, Inc. qualify for donations through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)?
Our Military Kids, Inc. meets the Campaign’s rigorous standards. Members of the Reserves or National Guard can select #12357 to contribute.

Yes! Please see the Severely Injured Program Guidelines and Criteria page.
