Kyan, Courageous Kids Contest U.S. Navy Winner
Kyan, 15, was selected as OMK's Courageous Kids Contest winner in the U.S. Navy category! Kyan is the child of a U.S. Navy Veteran who underwent treatment for combat-related injuries in 2023.
"Kyan is an example to his peers of what hard work, dedication, service, and kindness look like," said his dance instructor. "He is very deserving and raises his own funds for the cost of dance classes. This year he took a step of faith and became the first male dancer we have ever had in our training program. I know he will inspire young men in our studio to follow in his footsteps.
Kyan is very resilient and is a strong presence for his 5 siblings. Being the oldest boy in his family, I know that he helped take on the roles of his father while he was away.
Kyan exhibits courage by being one of the few male dancers we have at our studio. He never complains about being the only guy, and when he is around other boys at the studio he is a leader. It takes courage to be a male dancer, and I'm proud of Kyan for not caring about the wrongful stigma that surrounds boys who dance, but has stepped forward with courage and is helping to break that stigma.
I have known Kyan for over four years now and have watched him be a leader to his five siblings while his father was away. He is a kind big brother who leads with patience. I know that being the oldest in a family of eight cannot be easy, but he does it with grace and a helpful attitude!"
