Alexa, Army Reserve Courageous Kids Contest Winner

“It makes me feel proud to have a dad that serves in the military,” Alexa said. “It also means that sometimes I have to be brave and strong for not just myself but also my family."
Alexa (15) from Florida was selected as the winner of the 5th Annual Our Military Kids Courageous Kids Contest in the U.S. Army Reserve category.
During her father’s deployment with the U.S. Army Reserve, Alexa attended an Our Military Kids-funded summer camp that inspired her to volunteer to better her community and step up as a role model for her younger sister. In the future, Alexa aspires to become a physical therapist and to continue serving her community.

Alexa was nominated for the contest by her mother, who shared:
"Alexa was a role model during her dad's 2024 deployment. Alexa received an Our Military Kids activity award to attend a summer camp. She was a model camper, displaying leadership and active participation. Her sportsmanship and kindness were evident as she encouraged others and helped them through the week. This led her to serve our community through the S.A.L.T. (Servant and Leadership Training) program, with whom she recently ministered to a local underprivileged community by bringing them food and clothing and working to beautify the area around a newly installed community playground.
As her daddy served abroad, Alexa is serving locally.
She assisted her little sister's middle school volleyball team by running drills, coaching 6th-8th graders, and being a line judge during some games. Additionally, she serves our church by singing with the youth worship band and working in the preschool area. Following Hurricane Milton, she helped clean up the debris covering our church's property.
Alexa also exhibited strength while her dad was deployed by remaining focused on her grades and goals despite having to go through hip surgery. As a 9th grader, she is on track to graduate with her AA and high school diploma at the age of 17. Her resilience and dedication have been noticed by her younger sister, Alora, who wants to follow in her footsteps."
"I love to play volleyball because it's fun!" Alexa said. "It encourages me to communicate with others and make new friends. I enjoy singing on the worship team at church because I like praising God with the gift he has given me."
Throughout their father’s deployments with the U.S. Army Reserve, Alexa and her sister have each received Our Military Kids activity awards to fund summer camp, dance, and gymnastics.
