“The best advice I could give another military kid is to be proud of your title,” Xavier said. “Being a military kid means you are adaptable, resilient, and capable of dealing with change. Always wear that with pride, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.”

Xavier (16) from Georgia was selected as the winner of the 5th Annual Our Military Kids Courageous Kids Contest in the National Guard - Combat Injured Veteran category.

Xavier's mother is a U.S. Army National Guard Veteran in treatment for combat-related injuries. Throughout her treatment and multiple cross-country moves, Xavier has stepped up within his family and community through his passion for cooking and helping others. In the future, Xavier aspires to open his own café, run a triathlon, and travel the world.

Xavier was nominated for the contest by his mother, a combat-injured National Guard Veteran, who shared:

"As the eldest of four children, Xavier has always been the leader. Xavier exemplifies strength and resilience when he volunteers to fill in the gaps throughout my treatment by supplementing meal preparation for our family of six. In doing so, Xavier has found a love of cooking and the art of food preparation and hopes to own his own café one day. He likes giving cooking lessons to his siblings, neighbors, and friends who admire Xavier’s healthy food options. As a Type 1 Diabetic, he enjoys educating younger children and diabetics by teaching them how to prepare natural low-carb meals.

During the first days following the destruction of Hurricane Helene, Xavier was there to help his community in need by volunteering to help clear fallen trees and debris for people who were trapped on their property.

In 2023, Xavier set out to become a small business owner and launched his Nine Tails pet-sitting service. Xavier currently has six regular customers and two employees, all while maintaining three Advanced Placement classes in 11th grade, an SAT prep class, Cross Country, and Track and Field. Xavier is a role model to his employees, peers, and siblings alike because he displays hard work in his everyday life and decision-making."

“I’m proud to be a military kid, because that role has given me a new perspective of the world,” Xavier said.

Xavier and his siblings have each received multiple Our Military Kids extracurricular activity awards to fund tutoring, STEM camp, horseback riding, theater arts, and SAT Prep classes throughout their mother’s treatment for combat-related injuries.
