Wilson Paine of Reston, VA, coordinates an annual Tennis Tournament to benefit a military organization. This year, Serving For Heroes has partnered with Our Military Kids as the beneficiary of the tournament. The event took place on July 25-26, at the Reston Tennis Courts. 120 players showed up for the tournament and a little over $6,500 was raised for Our Military Kids! Over the two day span some players participated in over three matches a day in 90 degree heat. All players participating in the tournament received 1 free ticket to the 1^st round of the Citi Open on Monday, August 3^rd. Additionally, each tournament winner received a pair of tickets to the Citi Open Semifinal matches on Saturday, August 8^th.   “Initially, the Serving For Heroes Charity Open rai  sed funds to assist in the recovery process for wounded veterans. This year I wanted to broaden that scope to focus more on the military families who also endure incredible emotional and physical hardships that tend to be overlooked,” Paine said. “That is what attracted me to Our Military Kids. They understand that supporting military families and more specifically military children is an extension of supporting our veterans. Their grants offer an outlet to ease the emotional toll placed on military children while their parent is deployed. It’s such a worthy cause and felt like a natural fit for this tournament’s mission.”   We are excited for this partnership to grow and see what possibilities we have for next year!
