As we approach independence day, it’s important to remember those who have made sacrifices for our freedom.

Participating in extracurriculars can be a game-changer, which is why Our Military Kids works to provide Florida kids with opportunity to participate in the activities they love.

Our Military Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a fun atmosphere for military children.

“We have the opportunity to let kids be kids when they have a parent who is deployed with the national guard, reserve or recovering from serious combat injuries,” says Kara Dallman, the executive director of Our Military Kids.

The organization saw children were suffering  from extreme stress and other setbacks when their parents are deployed or recovering from overseas missions.

“It really causes a lot of anxiety because there are unknowns and the children are just trying to cope with the absence of a parent,” Dallman says.

Our Military Kids wanted to help engage them in extracurriculars. They began providing grants for kids to participate in any activity.

“It can be for an activity that they have already done, one that they would love to do, and it doesn’t really matter to us. What matter is that they choose that they are staying busy and that they stay strong during a really difficult time in their life,” says Dallman.

According to the company, The increase of activity helps children socially and academically.

“The grant is for the child, but the impact to the entire family and their wellbeing is really really high,” Dallman says.

The company also says they also provide a support system for the kids by letting them know they are not alone.

“We see you, we recognize what you are doing at home, at school, and everything that you are going through and we want to be there to support you specifically,” says Michelle Criqui, the marketing and communications manager of Our Military Kids.

As of 2020, the organization provided 3,644 grants to Florida military kids.
